We Are The Ones We’ve Been Waiting For

Last night we continued diving into sacred community.  We’ve been dancing to heal past wounds and to invoke the medicine we need to carry forward deepening relationship and collaboration with our fellow humans and all of our relations for the rest of our lives.

We are dancing what we have been shown as the way of healing – dancing in a space of transparency.  When we do dancing freedom, we can not be alone.  We can come into aloneness – dancing deeply in internal space.  But, if you cry, we hear you.  I I laugh, I influence you. I can not hide.  You can not hide.  We are together.  In this togetherness, each of us is praying his or her own prayer in connection with his or her creator and unique life path.  And yet, we are revealed as the same – as a circle.  Through this transparency and continuity, we are learning how to be better people – both individually and together.  We are learning how to bear and to celebrate our humanness and to dance that forward in an earthly way that is truly divine.

The Hopi Prophesy

from Oriah Mountain Dreamer

“Here is a river flowing now very fast.
It is so great and swift,
that there are those who will be afraid,
who will try to hold on to the shore,
they are being torn apart and will suffer greatly.
Know that the river has its destination.
The elders say we must let go of the shore,
push off into the middle of the river,
and keep our heads above water.
And I say see who is there with you and celebrate.
At this time in history we are to take nothing personally,
least of all ourselves, for the moment we do,
our spiritual growth and journey come to a halt.
The time of the lone wolf is over.
Gather yourselves.
Banish the word struggle from your attitude and vocabulary.
All that we do now must be done in a sacred manner and in celebration.
For we are the ones we have been waiting for.”

This interplay of alone-ness and interconnection has been at the center of my spiritual journey. The notion that we cannot hide, neither from ourselves nor from one another, is both scary and deeply comforting. In isolation we can hurt ourselves, and others, so profoundly. In community we can be exposed, seen, held accountable, forgiven loved, and taught how to care for ourselves and one another.

Reading this post I was reminded of the word, “Saibhung” from the Gurmukhi language of the Sikhs and of the mantras used in Kundalini Yoga. It means “totally sovereign and autonomous, yet acting with the integrity of totality.” The more fully we express our own uniqueness, the more we are able to be a partner in relationship, or a member of community or family. And it is only through dynamic interaction with others that we can really experience our individuality.

Thank you for this beautiful response. I was thinking today about Rilke’s “being the guardian of another’s solitude.” The balance is ever being lived int, yes?
